A few more words about this course

The terms "recognition" and "appreciation" are often used interchangeably. But they actually aren't the same. In this workshop, we'll focus in on appreciation and learn how to work together to create a workplace culture where we can all feel like we belong and matter.
Throughout this course you will:

  • Identify the key components of feeling valued at work
  • Identify the distinction between recognition and appreciation
  • Describe the languages of appreciation at work, and identify your own personal preferences related to languages of appreciation
  • Apply tips for success and strategies for overcoming challenges with creating a culture of appreciation to identify actions you can take personally and as a team
  • Describe the ways in which mindfulness, gratitude and self-compassion practices support appreciation at work
Course leader

Dr. Kate Toth, CHRL

Kate is the Director of Strategic Well-Being Services at YMCA WorkWell. She has a PhD in Health Psychology, a Master's in Industrial & Organizational Psychology, and is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) with the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA). She has more than two decades of experience in teaching others how to create healthy organizational cultures and foster employee well-being.
